In 2019, five bulls were found dead in a wooded area, fifteen miles from the nearest road. They had no wounds except missing genitals and tongues. There were no tracks or signs of struggle, ranchers said. Then it happened again. And again. […] These cases were new, but the mystery was more than fifty years old.
By the end of 1973, roughly forty cows had been found dead under apparently mysterious circumstances. Every time, their bodies were missing tongues, sex organs, and a bit of ear. Very little meat was taken.
